Saber Blog Update (2/26/22)
/Hello Internet Family,
I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the current and tragic situation in Ukraine. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. While I do have many personal opinions regarding the matter, I’m not going to discuss them here. I just wanted to ask everyone to join me in prayer for the safety and protection of the innocent civilians and for God’s swift and divine intervention to resolve this situation with minimal loss of life. To the people in Ukraine, May God Be With You.
Moving on to a lighter note,
Denatured finally launched it’s fifth chapter and is on it’s way to getting some well needed plot and character development. Five chapters in and the story has yet to move past the first day. It’s all been a slow introduction to say the least. This is something I was discussing the other day on my Discord server. What is the correct way to pace a story? I like to think I’m finding some good middle ground that isn’t too slow or too fast. It’s a balancing act that is often times only discovered by trial and error.
It’s something I definitely learned and applied to Walk With Me. If I had to start Denatured over, I probably would have executed the introduction differently. Most likely introducing our main character after her initial transformation, while revealing her origin in fragmented pieces.
…Oh well, you live you learn.
This month in art
Ok, it’s technically been almost three months since my last blog update, but I did still manage to squeeze out some drawings. Most of which were commissions.
The first image I have here is a commission I did for the ever amazing Starhound. It features their character Rhodie giving some friendly grooming tips to Faye. Fortunately for Faye, Rhodie is a veteran when it comes to living life as a transformed, gender bent, former human. So she definitely has some seasoned advice for our heroine.
I personally like Faye’s new outfit, but I suppose it could always be better. Who knows, it might change as I continue to evolve her as a character. It strikes me as very late 80’s early 90’s look, which I am absolutely fine with. If you recall, my original iteration of this outfit was somewhat different, but I think I managed to simplify it into something that better fits her personality.
Starhound graced me with two commissions this month. This being another one of their original characters Holly Sparks. I seldom get an opportunity to draw a skunk character, but when I do, it’s a real treat. She’s definitely a little less conventional as far as skunks go, but I love her design and she was a pleasure to draw.
She’s not the first skunk I’ve ever drawn, in fact the first one I ever drew was a waitress that had blue hair. Wasn’t my finest art at the time, but a skunk is definitely an animal I might consider making into a permanent character at some point. ...But no guarantees.
This next image is a blast from the past and a personal favorite of mine. It was a commission I did for VassirKajiit on Twitter. This image featuring two of my all time favorite characters Colleen and Hunter from the show Road Rovers. Yes, the barking, scratching, frisbee catching, presidential pets. You may be wondering why they are sitting on a giant tennis ball? Well, there’s no particular reason. I just thought it was funny considering they are dogs.
Road Rovers was one of those shows that in my opinion died far too soon. I feel like it was either way ahead of it’s time or it was just too late. Either way, the era it lived in did not give it a fair chance. While I do wish it had its better moment under the sun. I don’t really wish for it to be remade. The current state of popular culture has proven to be destructive to so many franchises and properties. So I don’t personally believe a remake would do the show justice if they did. I’ll always remember it for what it was. A wonderful gem of its time that’ll forever live on in my memories.
The Wall Of Awesome
Special thanks go out to Starhound, Tony Yorkie Silky, GandB101, Rusfox590, and ArtingSweater for these amazing images. They’ve all earned a place on the Wall Of Awesome. I forgot to include some of these in my previous blog post and I wanted to make sure that each one got some recognition. It always brings a smile to my face and I am very appreciative to see my characters drawn by others. You are all the best!
Something to Ponder
I’ve never really done something like this, but it’s just something I felt like. Whether or not you get something out of it is up to you. I leave you today with some complex words to chew on.
The seeds of destruction are so often sown into your life without your knowledge or consent. As they grow, you may find yourself bearing fruit of evil. My advice to you is to snuff out the evil. Seek out the higher Goodness. Then and only then can you see the seeds for what they truly are. Ask for the key to the garden shed. Destroy those seeds before they can root and weed and prune out the ones that already have. Remember, if you are not in Goodness, you are by default overrun with fruit of evil. And evil only produces more evil.
